In 1987, Dr. Minoru Kamata completed the doctoral program at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Engineering and received his doctorate in engineering. For 30 years from 1990 to 2020, he worked as a lecturer, associate professor, and professor at the University of Tokyo, conducting research and education in the fields of vehicle engineering, ergonomics, and welfare engineering. With regard to automated driving, since 2015 he has served as chairman of the Automated Driving Business Study Group by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and has also been involved in the formulation of safety technology guidelines for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. In 2020, he became the President of the Japan Automobile Research Institute, where he is engaged in research on the safety evaluation of autonomous driving.
